Social Clubs and Activities in July

This month sees the return of an old favourite, the start of a new club and some exciting trips. Read on to find out what we have in store for July…

This July we have 22 social clubs planned, including Choir club, Arts Club at FAT Studio, a tour of a Local Brewery, and more!

There are three different ways to join in the fun:

1. Attend a face-to-face club (marked 👫 in the list below). Please call 0207 118 0404 to book a place or arrange an induction.

2. Take part using a computer, tablet or a smartphone with an internet connection (marked 💻 in the list below). If you’ve got access to the internet at home, you just need to download Zoom to join, which we can support with if you get in touch.

3. Join a virtual club over the phone (marked 📞 in the list below). You can either call Zoom to join the club, or we can call you!

📹 Monday 4th July, 2:30-3:30pm: Virtual Crossword Club

Release your inner 'puzzle-person', engage your mind and have a pop at a crossword with your neighbours. No need to be a crossword connoisseur, everyone’s welcome.

👫 Tuesday 5th July, 6-7:30pm: Pub Club – Kennington

Come on in for a refreshing drink, catch up with old pals and make some new ones at our monthly Pub Club. Swap stories and jokes over a tipple, and raise a glass to new friendships.

👫 Wednesday 6th July, 11am-12:30pm: Brunch Club – Peckham

Join your neighbours for a scrumptious brunch. Come along for a cup of tea, a slice of cake and some great chat in this welcoming corner of Peckham.

👫 Thursday 7th July, 11:45am-1pm: Ballroom & Latin Dancing – Streatham

Get grooving and finesse your Ballroom and Latin steps with Vera the Diva. Expect some light exercise, plenty of fun and some new moves to show your pals. People of all abilities are welcome: absolutely no experience necessary!

👫 Friday 8th July, 11:15am-12:45pm: The Old Operating Theatre – Brixton Join Jenni from The Old Operating Theatre – a local museum that is housed in the attic of the early eighteenth-century church of the old St Thomas’ Hospital – as she offers a unique insight into the history of medicine and surgery at a workshop in Brixton.

👫 Friday 8th July, 2pm-4pm: Documentary Club – Elephant and Castle

Documentaries can be a great visual way to learn about the world we live in, dive into the lives of celebrities or even open up brand new discussion. This week we will be watching episodes 1 & 2 of the critically acclaimed ‘The Last Dance’. In the fall of 1997, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls allowed a film crew to follow them as they went for their sixth NBA title in eight seasons. That resulted in a stunning portrait of one of the sport's most iconic athletes and most celebrated teams – a must watch whether you’re a sports fan or not.

👫 Saturday 9th July, 2-4pm: Arts & Crafts – Old Kent Road F.A.T. Studios

Give your hat a new lease of life in this hat upcycling workshop with F.A.T. Studios, a local community arts club. Whether you have sewing skills or not, you can transform an old hat to something new & fresh. Come along with any hat and enjoy this creative session.

👫 Monday 11th July, 2:30-4pm: Chair Yoga – Blackfriars

Join us for some light exercise and calming breathing at a yoga club that is perfect for beginners. Expect some gentle stretching as well as plenty of time for a chat.

👫 Tuesday 12th July, 6-7:30pm: Quiz – Walworth

Put your knowledge to the test and find a good use for all those facts at our monthly Quiz Club. Team up with your neighbours and laugh your way to victory at this evening of fun and games.

👫 Wednesday 13th July, 11am-1pm: Gardening Club – Streatham

Whether you’re handy with a trowel, are keen to learn more about cultivating plants, or just want to spend some time in a relaxing environment, join us for our Gardening Club. People of all abilities are welcome: absolutely no gardening experience or knowledge necessary! Meet at the Rookery Café at 10.45am. There is step free access if needed.

👫 Wednesday 13th July, 6-7pm: Choir Club – Peckham

Join your neighbours for a joyful evening of singing, with no experience necessary! Please note, when you arrive, walk through the small gate to the left of the church on Elm Grove and look out for the door with a big shell above it – we’ll be in there! Dupé and younger neighbour Nathan will be running this club.'

👫 Friday 15th July, 2-4pm: Local Brewery Tour – Brixton

Come and join us at one of south London’s craft breweries and witness the process of making beer right in the heart of our neighbourhood.

👫 Saturday 16th July, 2-4pm: Technology Workshop – Peckham

Want to improve your confidence with your phone, tablet or laptop? Come along for a cuppa and bring your gadgets and technology-related questions with you!

👫 Sunday 17th July, 2-5pm: Film Screening – Bermondsey

This month’s film is ‘Paddington’. A young bear who can walk and talk travels to London from the jungles of Peru. There, he is adopted by the Brown family and goes through many adventures in the big city.

👫 Monday 18th July, 6:15-7:45pm: Script Reading – Camberwell

Try out your acting skills at our Script Reading Club. This month we’ll be reading a play first performed in Broadway in 1947 by Tennessee Williams: ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. The play dramatises the experiences of Blanche DuBois, a former Southern belle who, after encountering a series of personal losses, leaves her once-prosperous situation to move into a shabby apartment in New Orleans rented by her younger sister and brother-in-law.

👫 Tuesday 19th July, 6-7:30pm: Board Games Bonanza – Nunhead

Get ready for an evening of board games with your fellow neighbours. We’ll provide the games and some drinks – all you need to bring is a willingness to have fun!

👫 Wednesday 20th July, 2-4pm: Technology Workshop – Vauxhall

Want to improve your confidence with your phone, tablet or laptop? Come along for a cuppa and bring your gadgets and technology-related questions with you!

📞 Thursday 21st July, 4-5pm: Coffee & Catch Up

Grab a cuppa, and dial in for an hour of chatting and sharing stories with your younger neighbours over the phone. This month, we’ll be sharing memories from our favourite summer holidays.

👫 Monday 25th July, 1-2pm: Walking Boxing – Vassal

Have you ever wanted to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee? Well, here’s your chance (at a much slower pace, of course). Engage in some non-contact boxing training at a walking pace.

👫 Tuesday 26th July, 6-7:30pm: Desert Island Discs – Walworth

Like the radio show of its namesake, come with a song in mind and why it’s meaningful to you, or just listen, dance and enjoy the atmosphere! This month’s theme is 70s Disco! No need to bring any records/CDs with you – just the name of the song and artist.

👫 Wednesday 27th July, 11:30am-12:30pm: Table Tennis Club – Bermondsey

If you have watched Forrest Gump, then you know how fascinating a long rally can be. Come down to Bermondsey and test out your top spin with your neighbours. This club is suitable for beginners!

👫 Wednesday 27th July, 3-4.30pm: PPL

Workplace Visit Join your neighbours for a tour of PPL, a consultancy firm working with public services to promote better health, wellbeing and economic outcomes across the UK. We’ll have some time to ask questions about their work and take part in an interactive activity too.

This month's #AllTogether Activity Pack is full of creative pursuits to complete at home, including celebrating Plastic Free July, International Friendship Day and International Emoji Day!
