Although the summer has been hit and miss with the weather, we've had a wonderful time seeing many of you in person again and connecting with others of you over Zoom.
September's programme has fewer clubs than normal. This is so we can take a week off before the end of the month to reflect and plan a bumper rest of the year!
Our top priority remains to keep everybody safe, so all of our Face-to-Face Social Clubs will continue to run with restricted numbers in line with government guidance. This means you might not obtain a place at every club you wish to attend. You can read about the actions we are taking in our face-to-face safety guidelines.
All of our activities are free to join. However, younger neighbours must first complete an induction, and older neighbours need to book in advance. Please call us on 0207 118 0404 if you would like to attend. If you can’t get through to a member of staff, please leave a voice message, and we will get back to you.
There are two ways to join the fun in September:
1. Attend a face-to-face club (marked 👫 in the list below). Please call 0207 118 0404 to book a place or arrange an induction.
2. Take part using a computer, tablet or a smartphone with an internet connection (marked 💻 in the list below). If you’ve got access to the internet at home, you just need to download Zoom to join, which we can support with if you get in touch.
👫 Tuesday 7th September, 6-7:30pm: Pub Club – Kennington
Come along for a refreshing drink, catch up with old pals and make some new ones at our monthly Pub Club. Swap stories and jokes over a tipple, and raise a glass to new friendships.
👫 Thursday 9th September, 11:45am-1pm: Ballroom & Latin Dancing – Streatham
Get grooving and finesse your Ballroom and Latin steps with Vera the Diva. Expect some light exercise, plenty of fun and some new moves to show your pals. People of all abilities are welcome: absolutely no experience necessary.
👫 Monday 13th September, 2:30pm-4pm: Chair Yoga – Blackfriars
Join us for some light exercise and calming breathing at a yoga club that is perfect for beginners. Expect some gentle stretching as well as plenty of time for a warming cup of tea and a chat.
Put your knowledge to the test and find a good use for all those facts at our monthly Quiz Club. Team up with your neighbours and laugh your way to victory at this evening of fun and games.
💻 Thursday 16th September, 12:00-1:00pm: Mums for Lungs
Come and find out everything you need to know about how to tackle air pollution as we’re joined by ‘Mums for Lungs’, a rapidly growing movement of people of all ages campaigning for better air quality in London. Find out about their incredible work and how you can get involved to make our city healthier for everyone.
👫 Sunday 26th September, 2-5pm: Film Club – Bermondsey
Get your magic carpets ready and come on down to the deserts of Bermondsey to watch ‘Aladdin’. Experience the magic of the well-loved story reimaged as a full-length feature film.
👫 Tuesday 28th September, 6-7:30pm: Desert Island Discs – Walworth
Like the radio show of its namesake, come with a song in mind and why it’s meaningful to you, or just listen and enjoy the tunes! No need to bring any records/CDs with you, just the name of the song and artist. This month’s theme is ‘Epic Eighties’.
💻 Wednesday 29th September, 6:30-7:30pm: Ghost Signs – the History of Hand Painted Advertising
Have you ever noticed the faint remains of an advert painted on the side of a building? They're called ghost signs and Hackney has a lot of them! We’ll be joining forces with our sister charities in east London, north London, Manchester and Liverpool, and welcoming ghost signs expert Sam Roberts for a virtual tour of vintage advertising in the area and the history behind it.
September's #AllTogether Activity Pack includes creative tasks to do at home which celebrate International Doodle Day, National Read a Book Day, Pride Festival and more.
Join in the fun by downloading the pack here. Please do share with your friends, family, neighbours, tenants, patients, clients, grandparents and anyone else you think might enjoy a little bit of fun in 2021.
We’d love to include your ideas and completed tasks in our monthly pack, so please continue sending them to [email protected].
