WHAT IS THE 2.6 CHALLENGE?
South London Cares had planned several half marathons, fun runs and abseils for its supporters to take part in throughout the spring. Sadly, because of COVID-19, these events have either been postponed or are no longer going ahead, causing us to lose vital income to make our activities possible.
To tackle this, South London Cares - along with hundreds of other charities across the UK - is taking part in the 2.6 Challenge and asking our supporters to fundraise by creating their own athletic activities based around the numbers 2.6 or 26.
With your support, we want to raise over £3,000 in the coming weeks to keep our South London community connected.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
No need to be a marathon runner to take part – this is a challenge for all ages and abilities. Just get thinking of an activity-based around the numbers 26 or 2.6 and complete it on or from Sunday 26th April.
It could be something as simple as running 2.6 miles, 26 minutes of yoga, or juggling for 26 minutes - or on second thoughts, maybe just 2.6 minutes! Check out this guide for more ideas and inspiration.
You can create a video of your 2.6 challenge to share on social media, donate £26 to South London Cares and nominate friends and family to do the same.
Or you can set up a fundraising page for your 2.6 challenge and ask friends and family to support you.
And don’t worry if you’re not able to get out your house or flat for now. We’re not looking for superheroes - we’re looking for Home Heroes.
There are no rules (apart from the Government guidelines on how to exercise safely during this time). Whatever you can do, you can be part of it – the main thing is getting active, having fun and donating whatever you can to help save the UK’s charities

HOW WILL MY FUNDRAISING HELP?
£26 could pay for the postage of 26 #AloneTogether activity packs - keeping our older neighbours connected during this difficult time.
£52 could help match an older neighbour with a younger neighbour for a phone friendship.
£104 could make a virtual social club possible, bringing together older and younger friends to share time from afar.
Over the last four weeks, our team is working tirelessly to help older neighbours to have someone to turn to, and someone to talk to, during this emergency. Already hundreds of phone calls have helped us reassure older people across South London, to ask what people need, and to provide connection in a disconnecting time.
We have already:
Your support will help us to reach out and continue to support older neighbours across our patch over the coming weeks and months.
