190 times thank you, south London!

Please note: this post is 101 months old and The Cares Family is no longer operational. This post is shared for information only

It was October when we first asked you to support our Winter Wellbeing project via the Big Give Christmas Challenge. This year - just like last year and the year before that - we plan to knock at our older neighbours’ doors to make sure they stay warm, well, and connected this winter.

But it’s a project only made possible by the kind donations of our supporters, and you wowed us with your generosity. Indeed, last week, we witnessed something amazing. Between Tuesday 29th November and Friday 2nd of December, 90 of you decided to donate during the Big Give raising £6,321 to help our older neighbours keep warm, active and well during these challenging months. this winter.

From Brixton to Bermondsey, from Love Your Neighbour volunteers to social clubs attendees, from those who follow us on Twitter to those who have just heard from us from their cousin’s best friend’s girlfriend, thank you!

A huge thanks must also go to our Big Give champions who provided the matched funding during the campaign; the Postcode Support Trust, Qubit, Octopus, and our wonderful individual supporters. It made such a huge difference.

And if this isn't big enough a testament to your enthusiasm, on Tuesday 29th November, 100 of you squeezed into The Horse & Stables for the special Winter edition of our pub quiz. We laughed, cried with joy and triumphed in glorious pub quiz victory - and we toasted to an additional £988.51 raised in aid of our Winter Wellbeing project

Our winter tale south of the river has just started, thanks to you. £7,309.51 can make a heap of a difference to our older neighbours. It will help us distribute blankets, fuel grants, and connect older neighbours to local services. Not only that, you have helped fund over three months of social clubs during the winter - spreading the gift of friendship and company across Southwark and Lambeth.

With every blanket dispatched and at every door we knock during the Winter Wellbeing project, we will ask “How are you?” It’s a simple question, but very often not an easy one to answer. It’s thanks to these three words that we met Tony during last year’s Winter Wellbeing project. By the time spring had come Tony was a good friend to many of his older and younger neighbours, entertaining us with his jokes and stories.

Now, thanks to your support, we can ask that question to hundreds of older neighbours this winter, confident in the knowledge that we can help them make stories just like Tony's. Thank you south London!
