6 in 2016: Different experiences, same strong friendship

Please note: this post is 101 months old and The Cares Family is no longer operational. This post is shared for information only

We're constantly inspired by the friendships and the stories shared through our Love Your Neighbour programme. Emma and Bob are just one example.

They originally met at a South London Cares social club in Elephant and Castle in February. They got on like a house on fire from day one, and Emma's been visiting Bob at home ever since. But when you see them together, it feels like they've been friends for a lifetime.

Emma and Bob are like old friends. If their respective ages play any part in their friendship, it's that it gives them more to talk about and new perspectives on questions they both seem to return to time and again.

Emma has helped Bob plan for his 92nd birthday, with his love of art and current affairs at the heart of the plans.

Together, Emma and Bob talk about politics, Camberwell and what the future holds, all over biscuits and tea on a Saturday morning. They're from different generations, different social backgrounds, even different political persuasions – bit they're also close friends.

This photo captures the strength and depth of that friendship – and the time and laughter they share. Seeing them so at ease in each other's company is wonderful, and reminds us that community is so important.
