Back in June, Richard participated in the Brockwell Park ParkRun and ran an impressive 5km to raise money for South London Cares.
At 82 years old, and with severe arthritis in his back, that was no easy feat. But with the support and encouragement from his friends, family, and his wonderful South London Cares family, he got round the course in 1 hour and 26 minutes.
Inspired by his active younger neighbours participating in all manner of fundraisers, Richard ran the race to raise money for South London Cares. By the start of August, he'd completely surpassed his £500 target. Now, he's raised a whopping £1,500 for South London Cares.
On hearing this news, Richard said. "I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It means more than words can say. I'm so pleased because it's going to help a lot of other people like myself."
Thank you to everyone that supported Richard – on the day, with donations and with kind words of encouragement. It's certainly left him wanting more: "I'm trying to think of something else I could do. Somebody suggested I might jump from an airplane – although, with a parachute, I hasten to add!"
If you are inspired by Richard, you might want to join in one of our challenge events we've got coming up. You never know – you might see Richard at the start line!
