Albert's birthday present to South London Cares

Exactly three years since our very first Social Club, we received a special birthday present from our older neighbour Albert.

Albert's been coming to our Camberwell get togethers for just a few months, but has told us how much they've helped him to feel connected. We hoped that by spending time with his younger neighbours, sharing a laugh and sometimes a pint with them, it would make all the difference to his summer: a time of year which can feel especially lonely.

Whilst his company is a gift already, Albert wrote us a celebratory birthday poem. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Congratulations South London Cares,
A successful third year,
Yes, you should be proud,
Bringing generations together,
Arranging events, enjoyable times,
Good social interactions,
“Such a blessing,” when motivation has gone,
Renewing interest, and purpose,
And the desire to carry on.
For young volunteers, an interest
Maybe learn of a life, long past
With unrecorded memories
That last, and last.
So live your life young ones,
Go out, have fun,
While being with South London Cares,
New chapters of life are begun
