On a rainy Monday last February new volunteers Simon and Frieda braved the downpour and came along to one of our monthly volunteer inductions, unsure of what to expect. The next day, enthused about getting to know their older neighbours, the pals spread the word amongst their colleagues at Cloudflare.
In the 17 months since that wet winter evening, Cloudflare has been a wonderful supporter of South London Cares in many ways. Back in May 2016 they welcomed a group of local seventy, eighty and ninety-somethings to their Southwark office for a business visit. The Cloudflare team laid on a tour of the open plan workspace (complete with beer fridge), an afternoon tea, a joyous quiz, and even a selfie competition. It’s safe to say that the visitors had an unforgettable time: “I'm not sure how anyone could top today - it's been one of the best afternoons I've had in a long, long time!”.
Cloudflare’s also hosted monthly volunteer inductions for us since April 2016: to date we’ve onboarded 569 new volunteers in their office space.
Many more members of the Cloudflare team are now regularly volunteering at our social clubs, forging strong friendships and tackling isolation as they share tech tips, dance to reggae and explore south London together.
So a huge thank you to Simon, Natalie, Matthew, Salman, Frieda and the whole team at Cloudflare: your generosity has generated so much joy for your south London neighbours.
If you and your colleagues would like to collaborate with South London Cares – whether by lending meeting space, donating raffle prizes, inviting a group of older neighbours in for a business visit, or volunteering as a group, we’d love to hear from you.
