Perhaps you won’t find Darwin Court on Time Out's ‘Top Nightclubs in London’, but if they were to take a peek inside our monthly Desert Island Discs social club, I'm sure they'd consider slotting it in…
On the fourth Tuesday of each month, up to 60 younger and older neighbours alike head to Walworth to share songs, memories and (plenty of) dance moves over a cup of tea and a natter.
The club first began in 2016 when, like the radio show of its namesake, neighbours came with a song in mind and shared why it was meaningful to them. What started as an intimate, story-sharing social club - has become increasingly popular over the years and is now one big boogie-town.
Whilst the storytelling element may have *ahem* slipped slightly, the joy and laughter that resonates throughout the room each month is still as strong as ever.
Expect to be serenaded by David, our resident a capella superstar; witness a line-dancing flash mob led by Anita and Wendy and a whole load of (sober) tail-feather shaking. But there’s nothing to fear, as Katy (27) says: “It’s so liberating. It’s my favourite night of the month!”
For Bola (71) it's the reminiscing on the bedroom-boogie days, that keeps her coming back each month: "I love hearing songs I used to dance around my bedroom to. It's like going back to old memories."
Even if dancing’s not your thing - sit back, enjoy the show and your bound to head home with a few golden nuggets for your latest playlist. We can't wait for you to join us at our next Desert Island Disco.
