This week, a team fantastic of EY volunteers took to the streets to support their older neighbours in Southwark and Lambeth.
It was a jam packed day of activities. In the morning, they helped out with our Winter Wellbeing project and did some door knocking in sheltered housing units to ensure their older neighbours are keeping warm this December.
Then over lunch, they held a cake sale in their head office. 'The Great Business Bake Off' took on 'Robert Brownie Jr.' to see who could raise the most money with their baking skills. Mince pies, date and walnut cake and red velvet brownies were getting snapped up by the lunchtime crowd. We're chuffed that an impressive £703.40 was raised for South London Cares through this fundraising event.
In the afternoon, the team headed over to Barclays for a tech workshop. They helped Cait with her iPad, gave Dupe a few tips about how to best use his laptop and taught John how to get on to a wifi network. In between skills sharing they told stories, shared laughter and discussed their Christmas plans.
Of the day, EY said:
"It’s a brilliant charity and is mutually beneficial for both the younger volunteers and the older neighbours who participate in the network. We wanted an opportunity to give back to the community which we did, but we also had a great time ourselves and learnt a lot. We will definitely be volunteering with South London Cares again!"
We're chuffed to have the support of EY this week. Thanks to the EY team for their support, enthusiasm and companionship. Our older neighbours loved meeting you, and we hope to see you again soon!
