Over the past few weeks we've been looking forward to holding our first social club...
Earlier in the summer we discovered a group who attend a weekly day group for older people with dementia living around Stockwell.
Some of the people who go along don't have dementia themselves, but look forward to the regular social outing to help others who live at Lingham Court. It seemed the perfect opportunity to develop a new group meet-up bringing together local young volunteers and adding variety to people's social calendar.
Within no time at all, three lovely volunteers agreed to come and hang out with the group in Stockwell on a Friday evening after work. We were spurred on by their immediate support and enthusiasm.
Volunteers heard fascinating stories from William and Benita about Brixton back in the day, listened to Violet's fantastic multi-lingual singing voice and were treated to some dance moves from Thelma - all in a few hours, accompanied by cake, laughter and smiles.
By any other name, it was a party.
The group are meeting up again on September 12 - would you like to come along and join in the fun?
