Getting quizzical for South London Cares

Please note: this post is 106 months old and The Cares Family is no longer operational. This post is shared for information only

Last week, 70 of our Cares Family joined us at The Rose (Vauxhall) for some friendly competition in our annual fundraising summer pub quiz

The tension was palpable as supporters and volunteers got together to test their knowledge on everything from facts about south London, to opening lines of literature, to 90s boybands.

Our older neighbours even made an appearance; there was a round in which volunteers had to guess which story belonged to which older neighbour. We heard about Frances' drunken Christmas in 1960, John breaking down on the motorway dressed as a fairy, and Richard completing a 5km at the age of 82.

If the quiz didn't create enough tension, we also held a raffle, with prizes from the likes of The Wright Brothers, National Theatre and our good friends Franco Manca. Thank you to all the local business who donated a prize. They were much coveted!

A grand total of £650 was raised from the night. Thank you to everyone who came, brought a raffle ticket and donated on the evening. You helped to tackle isolation and loneliness in Southwark and Lambeth, helping to make your older neighbours feel valued, vibrant and visible.

We will be holding another pub quiz in winter. If you can't wait that long, then you might want to host your own pub quiz in aid of South London Cares. It's easier than you think. Check out this handy 'How to' guide which shows you how simple it can be to get quizzical for Cares. And of course, Emily is always on hand to help make your event a success!
