Happy 1st Birthday!

On Saturday 22nd August, South London Cares celebrated its 1st birthday!

Everyone loves a birthday. The big celebrations, seeing family, sharing laughter with loved ones. It's the perfect excuse to bring all of your favourite people together for some organised fun (the good kind, of course).

But birthdays are also a time for taking stock. In between slices of cake and the frantic unwrapping of gifts, we often reflect on what we've achieved in the past year, and look ahead to what the next 365 days might hold.

In that time, an amazing 190 volunteers have hung out with 420 older neighbours. That's 6,700 interactions across social and generational divides. That's 365 days of company, conversation and companionship. It's a whole year of story telling, belly laughter, memory making, sharing smiles and finding friendships.

Such connections are only possible thanks to you lovely lot – our wonderful Cares Family. And true to tradition, you made sure our birthday was memorable in every way.

First of all, some you joined us at our 1st birthday pub quiz at The Dogstar in Brixton. Tensions were high as we played a bingo style quiz, wonderfully hosted by the cheeky Tom Webb. There were dance-offs, a raffle and filmed quiz questions asked by our older neighbours. It was great to see so many of you there, and we're chuffed you enjoyed it as much as we did:

Then came the big day itself! On Saturday, we celebrated with our older neighbours in Brixton. It was your typical birthday party; home made food, plentiful cake and much laughter!

It's been a fantastic week of celebration, only made possible because of our wonderful supporters, volunteers and Cares family. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, a beer, a dance-off, a slice of cake, a shout-out, a donation, a laugh and a smile. You made South London Cares' birthday super special, and we can't wait to see what the next 365 days bring!
