London is a wonderful city in the summer. It's vibrant, oozing with opportunity and there's always something fun, special and unique to do.
And thanks to you lovely lot, South London Cares' activities were no different!
At the start of the month, Pete led a special Bricklaying workshop for his older neighbours over in Clapham. Stella, Fadha and the gang were taught the tricks of the trade, got to grips with a trowell and learnt how to lay some brick blocks. They were even educated on the tell tale signs of a cowboy builder! Huge thanks to Pete for hosting such a unique afternoon!
Elsewhere, long-standing Love Your Neighbour volunteer Sandra held a Pilates workshop. She led a series of stretches on Saturday morning, helping the likes of Rita and Miriam to feel relaxed and calm. On leaving, new neighbour Windell told Sandra: "I can't believe it. I feel ready for anything. What a wonderful way to start the weekend!"' We couldn't agree more! Thank you Sandra.
Over in Waterloo, our older neighbours visited FIRST to learn what goes in to planning an event. They were treated to a presentation from the company before brainstorming what the ideal South London Cares party would look like. And with suggestions including speeches from Daniel Craig, bespoke Shakespearian dress and limos to take everyone home, the Social Club bar has certainly been lifted! Cheers to Harriet, Kate and the gang for inspiring such creativity on a Friday afternoon.
Finally, a small note to say a huge thank you volunteer Lucy Clarke-Billings, who took on the London Triathlon in aid of South London Cares. She swam, cycled and ran to make such shared friendships possible, raising a whopping £500 for South London Cares. We are tired just thinking about it! A heartfelt thank you Lucy.
And thanks to all our neighbours who come together week in, week out for shared laughter, company and conversation. You make Southwark and Lambeth such wonderful places to live. We look forward to seeing what the autumn has in store!
