This month, we’d like to to say a special thank you to Lauren and Joe, our brave runners at the North London Vitality Half Marathon.
Lauren smashed her fundraising target, and raised a fantastic £540 for her community. Elsewhere, Joe literally decided to go the extra mile; he’s doing a second half marathon in April, running the glorious Hackney Half Marathon. He’s hoping to raise £500 across both of these challenges.
From running to baking, at the end of March, ten supporters took to the kitchen and got baking for Cares’ Cake Week. £1,260 was raised thanks to their sweet treats, and every single slice went towards making our spring social programme possible.
So, a big thank you to Lorna, Amy, Elena, Louise, Sian, Faria, Lauren, Arjun and Leen at Nera and the team at Octopus for baking in aid of South London Cares! If you want to hold a bake sale, you can find out how easy it is here.
Across the capital, Ben, Steve and the gang at AlixPartners donated their Friday drinks fund to South London Cares. Their ‘TGIF’ efforts not only brought smiles across the office, it raised £150 for the charity. Cheers team!
Finally, thanks to Kate and the team at M&S who welcomed Bridget, Arif and the gang to their headquarters near Edgware Road. Our older neighbours dabbled in food design, took a behind the scenes tour of the office and learnt about the history of the company. Not to mention the delicious lunch they shared with Katie and her colleagues!
And while miles were run, cakes eaten, jokes laughed at and drinks enjoyed, volunteer Jenny took her Love Your Neighbour match Michael (71) out for a lovely day of cake, coffee and clothes shopping in Brixton. It's been a long time since Michael's been able to get out of his flat so it meant a huge amount to him.
Finally, on Tuesday 21st March, volunteers, friends, and supporters joined together at the Leicester Square Theatre for ‘Hilarity for Charity’. Stewart Lee headed up a fantastic night of comedy, and £10,507 was raised for South London Cares and our sister charity, North London Cares.
We're so grateful to our friends who donated raffle prizes to make ‘Hilarity for Charity’ – volunteers Andrew, Jess, Katie, Harry and our neighbours Cupped, Franzina Trattoria and The Ritzy. Thank you!
Have you been inspired? There are so many ways you can help, and you can see some of them here. Alternatively, get in touch with Val if you have an idea that you’d like to become reality.
Or why not join the Vodka Jelly comedy night fundraiser, organised by our supporter Jamie Oliphant at the Camberwell Arms Thursday 20th April? The night is in aid of South London Cares, and will help make our spring activities possible.
