36-year-old Amita first joined the South London Cares community back in May 2016. Since then she’s been regular at social clubs: from Desert Islands Discs, to Elvis parties and pub club.

During that time she’s built lasting friendships with Pat, Rene and co: “we’re just friends who wouldn’t otherwise have had the chance to meet!”. Earlier this year she even shared a joint birthday celebration (complete with Mexican food, cocktails and twerking) with her older neighbour and good friend, Jacquie.

Having been an especially committed volunteer at our Peckham choir social club (attending almost every session for 6 months), back in January 2017 Amita decided to go above and beyond and become a South London Cares Volunteer Organiser.

So in the last 8 months, Amita has organised a whopping 15 social clubs – helping to facilitate friendships between 442 older and younger neighbours. She also supported the choir to make their first ever public performance at South London Cares' third birthday party last month.

At South London Cares we’re a very small team, so having a fantastic Volunteer Organiser like Amita on board means we’re able to run extra social clubs each month  which means even more older and younger neighbours sharing time together.
