South London Cares is a brand new volunteer network, built to support our older neighbours in Lambeth and Southwark. That means we need you to get involved - to help local older people to get the shopping, to clear a garden, and to get the most out of life through a dynamic programme of new social get togethers.
Over the coming months we'll be recruiting young people to be part of this exciting new venture. So if you live or work in Clapham, Brixton, Waterloo, Kennington, Oval, Brixton, Streatham, London Bridge or anywhere in south London, we'd love you to be part of it.
You can volunteer to help host our exciting group events that bring older and younger people together to have a cuppa and a natter, and to share the type of skills and experiences that build relationships over time - film nights, tea dances, concert trips, new technology workshops, shared histories events, cooking sessions and loads more.
Or you can sign up to support your older neighbours with the type of everyday tasks that so many of us get done without thinking about but which can become a real struggle for people in later life. These one-to-one relationships require a slightly bigger time commitment, but can be even more rewarding.
All these activities are designed to be accessible, fun and welcoming - for you as volunteers as well as for our older neighbours. We don't ask our volunteers to commit to being in the same place at the same time weeks on end (unless you want to!). On the contrary, with South London Cares you can volunteer as often or as infrequently as you like. Whenever time allows you, just let us know and we'll find a way for you to hang out with your older neighbours!
