Our Winter Wellbeing project 2014/2015 mobilised young people to help their older neighbours in Southwark and Lambeth stay warm, active, healthy and connected during the most isolating time of the year.

Through a combination of interactions, interventions, activities, gifts and referrals the project was part of a broad community coalition – made up of South London Cares with Southwark and Lambeth Councils, Age UK Lambeth, Age UK Southwark and Lewisham, The British Red Cross, King's College Hospital, Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and others. All reaching out to prevent isolation and fill the gaps in statutory provision during the winter.

The report and infographic below demonstrate the work South London Cares completed between December and February, and the importance of a targeted, preventative approach to combating isolation, connecting local people to local activities and services that they can relate to and feel reassured by.

We're really chuffed that the project went so well this year, our first year implementing south of the river the proven outreach methods from our sister charity North London Cares. Please do read the report and share the infographic so that we can recruit even more volunteers, and support even more older neighbours in Southwark and Lambeth in 2015/16.
