On Sunday 23rd April, Chris, Hollie, Catherine and Lizzie dusted their running shoes to hit the road for the London Marathon, in support of their community south of the river.
It was a beautifully sunny day, and our runners were supported by the thousands of people that took to the street to cheer the challengers on.
One week later Ben, Thibault, Faria, Chelsea, Rob, and Joe headed to the Hackney Marshes to take part in the Hackney Half. With music at every corner and all of Hackney cheering the runners, the race was a heart-warming celebration of London’s neighbourliness.
And while miles were run, and finish lines crossed, volunteer Judy invited her older neighbours to her university, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, to soak up the university life.
She gave Bill, Jacquie, and Pat the opportunity to visit a university for the first time, and they hung out with PhD students who gave them thoroughly interesting talks on their projects.
Last but not least, our comedy hero Jamie Oliphant held yet another one of his unmissable comedy gigs at the Camberwell Arms on Thursday 20th April. He then shared his comedy skills with his older neighbours over at Brixton, running a comedy workshop with his colleagues John and Dan.
Did Chris, Faria, Judy and Jamie inspire you? Well, you could be our next hero! Join us for our Cares Summer Gala on Saturday 10th June, or join the team running the London Landmarks Half next March. Get in touch with Val for more information
