Meet James, one of our amazing young volunteers who regularly hangs out with his older neighbours like Francis, Daphne and Richard at our Social Clubs. James is like many young professionals in south London: he has a busy working life, a big personality and enjoys spending time with people in his community who he wouldn't usually have a chance to meet. He wanted to share how he's enjoyed getting to know his older neighbours so far. Check it out!
A couple of weeks ago South London Cares and our lovely sister charity above the river were very proud to receive a Centre for Social Justice Award.
Hannah started volunteering at our Social Clubs in October. Read her insightful blog about how taking time to get to know her older neighbours has helped her to combat the unfriendliness which London requires as self defence. We can all benefit from the simple act of conversation with people you wouldn't usually hang out with, and at the same time help your older neighbours to feel more valued and visible in this buzzing capital of ours.
This week, as December arrived with the bitter weather, we launched our second Winter Wellbeing project. In our new blog by Volunteer & Outreach Officer Rosa, find out more about what we're up to, and how you can help curtail the creep of wintertime loneliness and ensure your older neighbours keep warm, active, healthy and connected.
South London Cares' volunteer Cassie got involved in September, and after a few months of hanging out with her older neighbours at our Social Clubs, she writes about her experience so far.
Jeanne and Olive are one of our Love Your Neighbour matches
across Southwark and Lambeth. Each match aims to help an older neighbour to
feel more confident, visible and valued amidst the constant buzz of our
bustling capital.
Believe it or not, the season of sparkle, sleigh bells, and socialising is just around the corner. There may technically be 12 days of Christmas, but at SLC we’ve got 19 fantastic ways for you to share some festive cheer with your community.
