It's our 6th Birthday!
Six years ago today, we followed the path of our older sibling charity, North London Cares, and took our first steps towards tackling loneliness and isolation in South London.
Six years ago today, we followed the path of our older sibling charity, North London Cares, and took our first steps towards tackling loneliness and isolation in South London.
At the beginning of lockdown, The Cares Family started the campaign #AloneTogether sharing daily activities for everyone to get involved with at home. As a result neighbours have been sharing poems, jokes, recipes, word searches and more. This grew into a weekly virtual social club at South London Cares where neighbours would come together online and over the phone to discuss and share a specific #AloneTogether task and topic. Fiona, from the 3G project, talks about her experience facilitating this club.
It’s easy to consider yourself not-racist by treating everyone equally, regardless of race - but we need to consider what it means to be actively anti-racist. Which is why, at the beginning of July, we linked up with The Anti-Racist Educator, a phenomenal organisation which works to make critical understandings of race and anti-racism from the academic realm more accessible to the wider community.
We thought the shift to the virtual realm would be a good opportunity to get to know some of our community a little better, so invited Poona and Ganga to South London Cares’ new HQ (Zoom) for a makeshift interview. Here’s how it went:
In disconnecting times, listening, hearing, seeing and connecting with neighbours is vital. That's why, every year, South London Cares leads a Winter Wellbeing project – to help older neighbours to stay warm, active and connected. Read some of the stories and stats of the impact of the project this year – one of the biggest to date.
Ever wondered what it's like to get an older neighbour set up on Zoom? As we transition to virtual social clubs, we invite you to share in the experience.

We're proud to share how we've re-invented our programmes for these extraordinary times – always maintaining connection, community and our values (kindness, community, trust, bravery, learning) at their heart.
Thank you to everyone who makes our work possible – from funders, to local businesses, to partners in the proud local voluntary sector and, most importantly, the older and younger neighbours who share time every day through South London Cares Cares. We're so grateful for your support, especially at this disconnecting time.
